About Hypnosis & Working With A Hypnotherapist
Hypnosis is an entirely natural state which is pleasant and relaxing, similar to the drowsy state experienced prior to sleep, where the physiological relaxed state is present. A better description of Hypnosis is conscious relaxation. Self hypnosis often occurs when we become engrossed in our reading, watching television, listening to music etc.
The role of the hypnotherapist is to help the client to switch into this natural mind state, rather than having it occurring by coincidence. People are often surprised, or at times disappointed, at how natural hypnosis feels to them. Such reactions arise because hypnosis is a natural mind state. Some people expect to be completely unaware of what happens or have no memory of the events following a hypnosis session. Indeed, that can occur, but in most cases the experience is vivid and real.
When the mind is relaxed, strong positive suggestions are given to the patient which influence the subconscious part of the mind for dynamic positive change, being particularly beneficial in providing skills to promote a greater feeling of confidence and well-being, producing long lasting habit change.
Among the many conditions that can often benefit from hypnotherapy are stress, obsessional issues, sexual, habit grieving and behavioural problems, fear of flying, driving, pre-test, exam nerves, blushing, anger, public speaking, dentistry and sport issues, panic attacks and numerous phobias, too many to mention here.
Hypnotherapy can assist with sleeping disorders, weight loss, drinking and eating and to promote a more satisfying pregnancy and birth experience. Asthmatic and hay-fever conditions can also respond favourably. Hypnotherapy is often used to promote rapid response to mind over matter, self healing of bodily discomfort, for peace and tranquillity.
Hypnosis was recognized as a complimentary healing modality by the British Medical Association (1955), the American Medical Association (1958, there are "definite and proper uses of hypnosis in medical and dental practice"), and the American Psychiatric Association (1961).
There is no surrender of mind or control. A person who does not want to be hypnotised cannot be hypnotised or induced to do or say anything which violates personal standards of behaviour or integrity.
Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958 as a viable form of treatment.
What is 5-PATH® Hypnotherapy?
A limited number hypnotherapists and hypnotists have undergone advanced hypnosis training and certification in 5-PATH® Hypnotherapy. Training and certification in 5-PATH® Hypnotherapy allows the hypnotist to go far beyond what most hypnotists can do in a hypnosis session.
Here is a quick outline of how these highly trained hypnosis professionals differentiate themselves from all of the rest:
- You will receive a comprehensive “pre-talk” in which you will learn about hypnosis.
- You will interact with the hypnotherapist during the “pre-hypnosis interview” during which the hypnotherapist will find out what your goals are, and how best to help you to reach those goals using hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis.
- Your hypnotherapist will use a modern hypnotic induction (no swinging watches or blinking eyeglasses are used). These modern inductions are fast and efficient allowing them to spend more time with you working on helping you to attain your goals.
- Your hypnotherapist will ensure that you are going into just the right level of hypnosis for the kind of work you will be doing together. This will be done with covert and overt testing. The covert testing is done by they hypnotist so that he or she will know that you are hypnotized, you probably will not notice this testing being done. Once that has been accomplished he or she will do overt testing to provide you with some objective evidence that you were hypnotized.
- Your hypnotherapist will customize each session for you. 5-PATH® hypnotherapists know how to match the right inductions, deepening techniques, suggestions and other techniques to each client for maximum results.
- Your hypnotherapist uses the 5-PATH® Hypnotherapy System. Your work with him or her will not be one of those one-shot deals. You will work together as a team as you go through the process, neutralizing any old limiting beliefs, emotions or habits that have caused you to not be as successful as you would like to be regarding the issues that you want to work on.
- Your hypnotherapist will go beyond merely suggesting changes and the visualization techniques offered by so many which only bring about limited results. Your 5-PATH® Hypnotherapist has been trained to find the actual cause of the problem and eliminate it, and then give you suggestions for success. This enables our clients to be very successful and experience long term and even permanent results.
- Your 5-PATH® Hypnotherapist is even able to deal with issues that could be causing problems that you may not have thought of such as internal conflicts. For example, most people who want to make positive changes in their lives also are a bit conflicted by making the changes, like the smoker who wants to stop but is fearful that he or she will miss the cigarette habit or gain weight. Another example is the person who has been abusing alcohol or drugs who fears that if he or she abstains they will be lonely or anxious without the alcohol or drug.
- Your 5-PATH® Hypnotherapist will take you through each phase of the process, customizing each phase for your needs, making sure that your hypnosis experience is completely professional, confidential and effective.
About Neuro Linguistic Programming Coaching
NLP Coaching is a modern and rapidly growing method for helping others to improve, develop, learn new skills, find personal success, achieve aims and manage life change and personal challenges. Life coaching, or personal coaching - different terms are used - is effective for all situations, whether in personal life, career, sales or corporate and business life.
Life coaching, personal coaching and similar coaching of this type is different to training. Coaching draws out rather than puts in. It develops rather than imposes. It reflects rather than directs. Coaching is is reactive, flexible and enabling, not prescriptive or instructional. Coaching is non-judgemental, not judgemental.
Coaching helps people to develop and grow in a variety of areas, and this is leading to the development of separate coaching specialisms that are becoming new coaching disciplines in their own right, covering: personal coaching and life coaching, coaching for life-change, parenting; self-fulfillment and self-discovery; career coaching for advancement and job choices; leadership and management coaching; coaching for sales and business success; executive coaching for corporate performance and director development.
Coaching is about getting the very best out of someone and enabling them to make decisions that will improve their life. Coaches are hired for very many different and diverse reasons, for example: to climb the career ladder faster; to feel more fulfilled at work; to improve relationships with family and partners; to learn parenting skills that benefit both the child and parent; to gain a spiritual meaning to life, or a desire to 'get sorted'.
Also, when a person experiences being coached, their motivation comes from working with a coach who is him/herself an upbeat, positive role model. In this way coaching is a unique way of developing people. Coaches agree that helping clients to reach their full potential through this approach produces great satisfaction.
NLP was developed in the mid-70s by John Grinder a Professor at the UC Santa Cruz and Richard Bandler a Graduate student. NLP as most people use the term today, is a set of models of how communication influences and is impacted by subjective experience.
It is more a collection of a number of models and then techniques based an those models. The major models associated with NLP are:
- Sensory acuity and physiology: Thinking is tied closely to physiology. A person's thought procedure changes their physiological state. Sufficiently sensitive sensory acuity will help communicators fine tune their communication to a person in ways over and above mere linguistics.
- The Meta Model: A set of Linguistic challenges for uncovering 'deep structure' underneath someone's 'surface structure' EG 'what are they really trying to say?
- Representational systems: NLP practitioners believe that individuals communicate in a systemic way that utilizes the senses, Auditory, Visually and Kinesthetically. We also use taste and smell although these are not used as much as the main three.
NLP has several techniques for making sense and intervening in certain situations. There is the fast phobia cure which can tackle phobias in less than one hour. Ways to identify and integrate conflicting belief systems that keep you from doing the things that you are capable of achieving.
But the most exciting aspect of NLP Coaching may be that it is solution-focussed. Rather than spend our precious time thinking about problems of the past or why things went wrong, we focus on making things right. We focus on getting you the results you need.
And so the results from NLP coaching are almost instantaneous. Hundreds of our clients have experienced the bliss of instant self improvement.
